The Pioneers of the Virtual World: Google and Facebook.

The competition of who comes up with the fastest and more convenient way of paying is intensifying. Google has now launched its new project to install NFC readers in several retailers throughout New York and San Francisco cities. These markets are going to be where Google tests the results of its new service. For those of you who do not know, NFC stands for Near Field Communication and these devices act as kind of credit card readers so you can pay at any location that has it with your phone (Taking in consideration that you have the app for it). Of course, this is still a work in process. For more information about this interesting topic you can click here

Now focusing more in social media it is time to talk about Facebook. This giant of social media keeps revolutionizing the world. This last month Facebook received a patent for a new search engine that combines the regular results of a search engines with the popularity of each result. This will allow you to see which are the most popular links and which ones are not. For the most part, this would aid companies and deals that are popular with the crowd and would make it very difficult for small companies to appear; nonetheless, Facebook is once again providing new ways to make a regular activity more social. 1. Nice blog , I if googles nfc works out i think it can cut down the fraud because you wont have a need to carry credit card with you and there for lowering the chances of losing them. And it will be interesting to see facebooks new search option.I still believe that search engines still have plenty of room for improvement. I do have to take a shot at your title though in my opinion webcrawler 1994 set the standard for search engines and were the true pioneers, and before facebook there was friendster. Nonetheless great blog.

  2. I have not decided if I am actually a fan of the new search engine or not from Facebook. My main hesitation is I think it will cut out some very valuable links or information that I would like to be exposed to. There are things I am searching for that it is because I want more than just word of mouth -- though this is a very valuable option when researching many things.

It is true Al, that these two companies did not technically "pioneer" what they are now famous for, but they did learn how to "do it better" and that is who gets remembered.
